Stephenson Avenue Extension Project Asbestos Management - Update 22 August 2024

Asbestos Management Update

Our last update outlined a staged recommencement of works at the casting yards for the Stephenson Avenue bridge and the Stirling Station bus bridge and in the Freeway median.

We have continued to work closely with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, the independent contaminated sites auditor and industrial hygienists to undertake ongoing assessments and support the management of the site.

Works have recommenced across the wider project site, following approval from the independent contaminated sites auditor. Work areas will continue to progressively open up as we receive clearances from industrial hygiene experts.

Local residents may soon see an increase in construction activity nearby. However, the stockpiles remain quarantined.

The health and wellbeing of the community and our workers is our priority and precautionary mitigation measures continue to be implemented. This includes dust and airborne asbestos monitoring and the application of dust suppression polymer.
