What's Happening

Work is underway until mid-2025 to upgrade the road network, and pedestrian and cyclist facilities adjacent to Belmont Park Racecourse and Graham Farmer Freeway in Victoria Park.

Graham Farmer Freeway and Victoria Park Drive Closures – 31 March to 6 April

Closures on Graham Farmer Freeway will apply between 10pm and 5am to facilitate works on and around the new footbridge on the following nights:

  • Monday, 31 March – Eastbound Graham Farmer Freeway lanes, access maintained via the Victoria Park Drive on and off-ramps.
  • Tuesday 1 April – Westbound lanes on Graham Farmer Freeway under Victoria Park Drive.  Traffic access will be maintained using Victoria Park Drive bridge and on and off-ramps.

Closures on Victoria Park Drive will be implemented between 7pm and 6am facilitate resurfacing and line marking works on the following nights:

  • Thursday, 3 April
  • Friday, 4 April
  • Saturday, 5 April

Detours will be in operation using Graham Farmer Freeway, Seabiscuit Drive and Great Eastern Highway to access Victoria Park Drive.  Access for residents will be maintained via this detour route and along Victoria Park Drive, however, a hard closure will apply west of Roger Mackay Drive on Victoria Park Drive.

Road users should allow for extra travel time, plan to avoid Victoria Park Drive at Graham Farmer Freeway and follow all detour signage.

To accommodate the AFL game scheduled for Sunday 6 April Victoria Park Drive will be re-opened from 4am.

Local traffic access to Belmont Park

Local traffic changes implemented in Belmont and Burswood include:

  • Goodwood Parade westbound from Victoria Park bridge being permanently closed.
  • Saintly Entrance exit onto Goodwood Parade closed temporarily for intersection reconstruction, and
  • Access to Belmont Park Racecourse, Racecourse car park and Burswood Point Development provided via Saintly Entrance and Seabiscuit Drive.

Please view the map below showing the new traffic changes.

Nightworks

Nightworks are continuing in March 2025 to enable modifications to the existing Victoria Park Drive Bridge. These works will include vehicle movements to and from site.

Nightworks will occur between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

Work hours and ongoing traffic management

In general, road and bridge works will be undertaken Monday to Saturday, between 7am and 7pm. Visit our Travel Map for the latest updates.

At times nightworks are occurring to reduce the impacts on road users, and facilitate access to the works site, weather permitting. Visit our Travel Map for the latest updates.

Graham Farmer Freeway speeds have been reduced in both directions to accommodate the changed road environment and allow for the safe construction of the new footbridge.

The works are being undertaken in accordance with approved Noise Management and Traffic Management plans. Work-related noise will be minimised wherever possible but may include machinery movements and operations (including reverse beepers).

PSP closure from November 2024 to mid-April 2025

From November 2024, the northern PSP has been closed for road, barrier, drainage and signal modifications at Saintly Entrance. Path users are being directed onto an existing path near Optus Stadium and Windan Bridge, as outlined in the below detour map:
