Nicholson Road, Garden Street and Yale Road Grade Separation

What's Happening

Project Update

Development work is underway to build an overpass over the current roundabout between Garden Street, Nicholson Road and Yale Road. The existing roundabout will be retained, allowing all movements between these roads. Movements between Nicholson Road (north approach) and Garden Street will be directed onto the new bridge over the existing roundabout.

The below animation outlines the proposed key project features.

Activities underway include:

 • Early designs for road, bridge, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and drainage.
 • Early concepts for urban landscape and design, noise mitigation and visual screening.
 • Liaison with service authorities.
 • Access and connectivity of side roads and pedestrian and cycling transport options.

Early works for the project started late 2024. The work included ATCO gas relocation and the extension of the shared path underpass. Western Power relocation works will commence in 2026.

The Nicholson Road Station contractor, NEWest Alliance, will construct the shared path underpass extension on behalf of the project to minimise future disruption of access to the newly opened Nicholson Road Station.
